When asked if the college agrees with the student-led petition to disinvite McManus from graduation, Holy Cross issued a statement saying that: “Bishop McManus has communicated to President Rougeau that he will not be attending commencement. The petition came after Bishop McManus requested Nativity School, a Jesuit middle school institutionally related to Holy Cross, to stop flying gay pride and a Black Lives Matter flags next to the US flag. The petition, signed by a small number of protesters, including some not associated with the Jesuit college, claims that “In contrast to our values, the Bishop has insisted that Nativity School remove Black Lives Matter and Pride flags from their campus or face the consequence of losing the school’s Catholic identity " and termed the bishop’s call to coherence with the Catholic faith "ignorant and bigoted." McManus didn’t attend in 2020 or 2021 either. The term is described as a response to gay pride adopted by various groups (later united under the moniker LGBT) in the early 1970s, or to the accommodations provided to gay pride initiatives.Students, staff, and alumni at the College of the Holy Cross are petitioning the administration to disinvite Bishop Robert McManus of Worcester from attending this year’s graduation ceremony, although he he has already announced he will not do so, because they say his request of a local Catholic school to cease flying gay pride and Black Lives Matter flags is “antithetical to the ideals, values, and mission” of the college.Ī spokesman for the Diocese of Worcester, Ray Delisle, told CNA that Bishop McManus had already communicated to the Jesuit College president, Vincent Rougeau, that he would not be attending commencement this year.īishop McManus turned down invitations to attend commencement at Holy Cross in both 20 according to the Telegram & Gazette. However, some believe “straight pride” events are simply the latest manifestation of anti-LGBTQ bigotry. They also might be, asexual heteroromantic, or aromantic heterosexual, which also makes them LGBT. While straight is often used to describe non-LGBT people it is possible for straight people to be part of the LGBT community. The term "straight" is used to describe for both straight men and straight women. Straight is most viewed as men attracted to women and women attracted to men. Some abrosexual people may be fluid between all sexualities, while others may only be fluid between a few. The sexualities that a person fluctuates between also varies. The timing of the fluctuations is different for every person for some the fluctuations may be erratic and for others they may be regular. Because of their inconsistent attraction, some abrosexual people may not feel compelled to seek out a relationship or may prefer a wavership.
